When July 3rd got here the two of us headed down town towards Centennial hall about 15 minutes before the show was to start. We parked near by and walked right in the building and found our seats pretty quickly.

Says You Taping

Because Says You is a radio show there was nothing fancy in the way of a stage or seating. Chairs filled the main hall with a small rectangular stage up front to seat 8 people. Six of which where for the contestants and two where for the score keepers. A podium was of to one side of the stage for the host of Says You, Richard Sher.

The panel was composed of all local people from Juneau. Laury Scandling, Ben Brown, Ron Clarke, Jesse Kiehl, Kathie Wasserman and Larry Persily.

Hannah and I got to see two shows that were taped for radio. The shows where very funny and everyone had a great time. They had a lot of local humor and national humor that I think someone who is not from here listening to the show would still laugh at. The shows they taped that night will be released on September but it’s up to local NPR station to decide whether they will be picked up and broadcast or not. The shows should be available for download even if they are not played on the radio.

Our local paper also did a write up on the show.

Recently I was reading a Wizards of the Cost Twitter post (@Wizards_DnD) and followed a link to a video presentation given by Chad Henderson. It was called “All I Need To Know About Life I learned From Dungeons & Dragons”. I thought it was a pretty good post and I wanted to share it.

Hannah snapped some quick video of 4 of us playing to Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer”. I am playing guitar, Rose is on vocals, Carley is on bass guitar and Zaine is playing the drums.

Now you may notice that I am bouncing around like a fool while we play. I do this for two reasons.

1. I really love music. I really get into it and enjoy it.
2. To entertain people. There are about 5 or 6 people off camera view you can’t see who are just watching the four us play. I know personally i would rather be playing a video game then watching someone else play it. So I feel that the least I can do is try and make it as entertaining as possible for all those who are waiting for their turn to play the game.

This kind of mentality goes back to when I lived in Anacortes and used to play in a band. I was a poor high school student. I know the kids coming to see my band play where also poor high school student’s, and they are getting charged around ten bucks a show to see us play. So I always felt they should get their moneys worth by exaggerating my playing, showing off, just giving them something to look at. Making sure the kid in the back of the venue felt just as entertained as the kids near the front of the stage. I always try to take my band practices very seriously. Always wanting to get better at the drums and the music we were playing. I always felt that shows we played was when we are not longer musicians but entertainers. People are coming to a rock show to be entertained, not to just see you stand in the middle of the stage playing a guitar and signing with your eyes closed.

But I digress.

Guitar Hero (like Rock Band) Is a great game for parties and just fun. It’s one of the very few games I own that i still come back to and play all the time.

So some time has passed since my first Dungeons & Dragons post. Since then I have been doing some more research online. I have learned that their have been several versions of the game have been released since 1974. The current version of Dungeons and Dragons is Version 4.0. It’s supposed to be a lot easier for newcomers to the game to grasp. In my case, I take that as very positive news. It was also encouraging to find that I am not the only one learning how to play the game. Gabe from Penny Arcade has also been taking steps to learn how run a D&D game as you can read on the Penny Arcade blog.

It’s True! I have lived here for nearly four years now. I have been inside every store in Juneau at least once looking for Swiss Cake Rolls, Cosmic Brownies, or Chocolate Chip Snack Cakes with no luck. It’s quite sad. My Fiancé takes this a little harder then I do. Chocolate of course, is one of the things she loves.

Luckily for us, we have caring families who from time to time send us a care packages from the lower 48 states with (among other things) Little Debbie products. We very carefully ration them out to last as long as possible.

It’s very puzzeling to us why no stores in Juneau carry any Little Debbie products at all. It’s been a topic of quite a few conversations between us, and friends, and family.

These Rock! Found them at the store this last weekend. They will go very well with my other pair!

Those of you who are fans of the show “How I Met Your Mother” know about Barney’s “Get Psyched Mix”. The Get Psyched Mix is an audio CD that the character Barney on the show made with the idea that a good music mix dose not have to have highs and lows. But can be all rise! As he stated on the show, his Get Psyched Mix is nothing less then an audio journey to the white hot center of adrenalin.

This has inspired me to create my own Get Psyched Mix that is nothing less then all rise it’s self.
